Age Discrimination at Work

Foods, clothes and shelter : these are the basic needs in our  life. Work is one way to sustain all of this. We need to work in order to live. But only a  few people had an opportunity to get a job. Sad to say, some jobs are not stable and the most common problem in this situation, is that, their age or simply  the age discrimination at work.

An interview with a 41 years old woman who had 10 years working  experienced as a secretary on a private company agreed that there is an age discrimination happening on their company but it is difficult to prove. According to her, there are companies , particularly, private companies had an age bracket wherein they only accept 40 years old below. In addition, they usually hire freshly graduates even though they are not yet professionals... meaning to say, even an employee is a well mannered and train if he didn't reach a good educational attainment he will not be hired in the company. Because this age are capable and fit to work in their assigned jobs. And aside of this, she said that private companies don’t want to give insurance and retirement benefits from employers that above from 40 years old to lessen the cause of production. So it is a proof that age discrimination at work really exist.

This interview support the definition of age discrimination. Based on what I research, age discrimination is an employment issue that involves subjecting an employee who is 40 years old of age or older to discriminatory actions in any aspects of his or her employment, from hiring to termination. It also involves treating someone (an applicant or an employee), less favorably because of his age. Age Discrimination happen in a private companies wherein they hire first the adults that have a young age because employers think that it is capable at doing work.

I conducted again an interview with a fresh graduate student who has a job in a private company. He told to me that this matter exist. And you can be bullied or harass in your work. “Bullying is not only happening in school, it also happen in jobs or work.” He said. How? He told to me that if I’m new in the company and you doesn’t know anything, your employer had an opportunity to use your quality of work and also they can manipulate, bullied, and harass you. In what ways? He told to me an example. An employer always ordered an employee to do these, those, that. But its not the job of the employee. But because he was only new in the company he must need to follow and do what his employer ordered to him. So we can see that there are  harassing, abusing bullying, and discriminating happen in some other companies.

In the sides of the employers, they were favored in age discrimination because as we can see if they use that process, their quality of production increases. And the employer was not forced to give high salary in the employee. They uses it a reason to not give high salary. And not only that, like I was stated a while ago, these employers don’t need to give some insurance in their employee because almost of their employee is young adults. And also I want to say that eventhough it was totally happening it is hard to prove that it really happens.

There are laws that protect people in work. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) only forbids age discrimination against people who are 40 years or older. It does not protect workers under the age 40, although some states/country do have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination. Based on my research this Act is only exist on other country, and also this age discrimination is mostly happened in Los Angeles, California. In Philippines we have laws like Labor code that I will farther discuss later.

Age Discrimination is not only happen in a private company but its also happen in a government company. Yes even though the employees in the government company were protected by the labor code wherein 60 years old had a retirement benefits but the chance to have a quality position cannot offered to them because of their age.

Therefore Age Discrimination not also refers in discrimination on numerical age but also in young at experience and young physically. And it was existing either in private or government company. Everyone are aware of it but had a courage to oppose it. So in this case, we can say why are so many people because of this reason and they make people  jobless and if there are people were jobless, a homeless people, there will be uneducated people , and hopeless people. And in the end worse society comes and it can cause crimes and chaos and there was peace were not exist.

Should we expect something from the government of people? History says Government can’t change the world, all of this. The question is: Is there be a hope? Yes. Because God promise:

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. THE FORMER THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY.”

“And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW.”  Also he says: “WRITE, FOR THESE WORDS ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE.”

Bullying

Noong Grade 6 ako naging biktima ako ng pambubully.Halos galit na galit ako.Iniisip ko kung paano ako makakaganti at kung saan ko sila makikita.Noong araw na nabully ako,pauwi na ako,galing ako sa classmate ko dahil nagpractise kami.Nang pauwi na ako, napadaan ako sa tita ko,nang naglalakad ako at ang kaibigan kong si Edrian, nakasalubong namin ang isang pangkat ng kabataan, mga lima silang katao.Dahil sa marami sila, pinagtripan nila kami, iniisip nila na hindi namin sila kaya, pero sa katunayan hindi naman talaga namin sila kaya at doon nila kinuha ang mga gamit naming dala.Wala kaming nagawa, kaya hinayaan na lang namin sila dahil sa dalawa lang kami.Dahil sa pangyayaring iyon, nadala na ako kaya hindi na ako nagpabully.Natuto na akong lumaban.Dito na ako nasangkot sa maraming kaguluhan.Noong Grade 7 pa ako madalas akong nakikipagaway dahil ang mga classmate ko ay mga bullies, pero pinangaralan ako ng aking ina na isang Jehovah's Witnesses.Tinatawag silang mga saksi ni Jehova.Sinabi ng aking ina na masamang gumanti dahil hindi ito nagpapakita ng pagmamahalan sa isat-isa.

Kaya dito malalaman kung siya ay mananamba ng Diyos kung meron silang pag-ibig sa isat-isa.

My brother wrote that last year because their teacher told them to have a reaction paper or true to life story about bullying.When he wrote that he is a Grade 8 student (second year).

A TIRING/ENJOY day

Hayttzz.....lAST Tuesday  May 20, 2014 me and my friend Mica ella went to QCPU to enroll and pass the requirements needed.
We plan to go their as early as we can, so yesterday we went out our house at 6:00 in the morning.And we feel sleepy in the jeep and fx.7:00 na kami nakadating sa QCPU and nagulat kami cauze its so haba ng pila for accounting.Accounting na lang kami cauze we finished na sa assessment noong last week.So yun nga ang haba ng  line and I texted Regine Pacula my batchmate and my former classmate also.And after so long minutes she replied na
 "hahaha haba nga ng pila san kau?Hehehe..."
Then at that time umaandar or umuusad yung pila then I see her.Sabi ko sabay sabay na kami but she need to talk to the boy at my back (na lagi kong natatapakan ang paa hehehe.) na makisingit.Then yun she do what I told to her so yun pumayag na man si kuya.So tatlo kami magkakasama.Then habang umuusad yung pila,me and Ragine talked about the song of 2ne1 the "come back home". I enjoy talking to her.Hahaha.And I realize that Mica Ella is so quiet at that time and I also realized that she suffer eye injury basta masakit mata niya.Hindi niya maidilat mata niya cauze sumasakit yung eyes niya sa light ng sun.Then hanggang malapit na kami sa accounting office and nakaupo na kami sa chairs.And yung katabi ni Mica, a boy and a girl have a problem. yun pala di pa sila nagpapa-assess ng babayaran nila so the girl go to the gym(place of assessment)and the boy na kasama ng girl waited for long minutes eh  umaandar na yung pila,so he requested to Mica if she can reserve a chair at least for one of them,then umalis na si boy.And yun nung nandoon na kami sa unang chairs nakapagdecide kami na wag na si boy ireserve ng chair kasi baka mapagalitan kami so after so many minutes nalipat kame sa other side ng pilahan with chairs parin.Pero super lapit na namin sa accounting room.Habang nakapila and nakaupo kami picture picture kame tatlo.Hahaha.
Super bored na kasi kami and yun after a minutes nasa loob na kame ng accounting room.

I brought only 1200,then I paid the 1090 in the miscellaneous same as Regine and Mica.But they have pocket money but I dont have:(
After namin magbayad,nagulat kami na may babayaran pang
NSTP,ID,and Insurance.Dahil si Regine ay may natira pang 400 nagbayad siya ng 250 lahat na iyon.
And dahil ang pera ko ngalang ay 110 ang kay Mica ay 200.Hindi kame nakapagbayad kaya iniwan namin si Regine sa accounting office and pumunta na kame ni Mica sa accounting sa gym.When we go there the staff told us na we need to pay the NSTP as soon as possible 'cause it is a subject daw kaya we called our moms and ayon after long discussion pupunta c ate Ning(Mica's mother) sa school so yun we fill out first yung binigay na form sa amin.Kasama na namin si Regine.Were finished na  magfill up but si Regine ay nagfifill up pa lng.So we dicided again ni Mica na iwanan muna namin si Regine dahil we need to go out sa gym para abangan yung mama ni Mica.I told na lang kay Regine na if may need or may question siya text niya na lang me.So me and Mica go near the gate.May semi-upuan naman dun.After a minutes Regine came and pinakita sa amin na siya ay enrolled na.Then nag-aya siya na mag lunch na kasi 11:30 na.Pumayag naman kami kasi were hungry narin.
When we are in the canteen,I only by palamig na melon cauze I have no money eh.Then Mica told me na nandito na mama niya kaya iniwan ulit namin si Regine.Hehehe.Sabi ko na lang na after na makapagenroll balikan namin siya.

We go to ate Ning to get the money.After that we go to accounting office again.And we taught na we need to pila again but buti na lang mali akala namin.Hehehe.Muntik narin kame maabutan ng cut off kasi its already 12 afternoon na.Buti talaga nakahabol kame..Yun after namin magbayad ng NSTP pumunta kame ng gym para ipasa yung form at tatakan din.

After 1234567890  million years.I am officially enrolled na.Yeeeesssss!!!!
But I thought last na processing na iyon,mali na naman si Ms.Thought koh.Aytttzzz. May need pang iprocess at ipasang requirements sa registrar- our form 137.Haytzzz.Babalik pa ulit kame.

After that we decided to go to the canteen to meet Regine but when we go there we didn't see Regine.We end up calling her.She told us that she is in the Id session now.And she also told the place so we decided to go.When we are in the place we see Regine sitting down in the sidewalk basta sa gilid.We called her and she told us na break pa ng staff.So we also sit in the sidewalk.And i am so hungry i go again to the canteen and buy melon juice.Hehehe.When i back to the place, i see them writing.Yun pala nagpapareserve sila for ID and babalik ng 1:00 in the afternoon.Yun kaya we decided that mamasyal muna so we ended up na magstay sa wall na may paintings.And we take some pictures there.
When I checked my cp, I see that its already 1:00 afternoon so we dicided nah pumunta na sa office.

The staff told us that the first priority is the student who enrolled at QCPU Batasan and QCPU SF.So because me and Regine are enrolled at the Batasan QCPU and Mica at the SF, we go there together.
At the officeI kept smiling.Hahaha.I practised my smile so that in my ID nice yung maging result,pinagtatawanan na nga me eh lalo na si Regine kasi para daw akong baliw....Hahahaha.
After kung magpapicture, I see my face in my ID .Yaykzzz.Its so horible.But I didnt complain 'cauze sabi ni ISIP ko na its not important,important is may school ID kame.After that we go naman sa SYDP building para sa scholarship.Parito't paroon nga kame.But in the end di rin kame nakapagpasa sayang tuloy yung ginawang essay koh kasi bago kami bigyan ng Registration Form we need to make some essay.Dahil alam niyo naman na Im not good in writing essay,I need my mother's help 'cauze she is good in writing an essay. Yun pala sayang rin kasi need daw yung ITR ng parents eh.Hayttzzz tapoz ang susungit pa ng mga staff.Aissshh.-_-
Pagod kame syempre nung nakauwe.After ng Mirabella at pagkatapos kung maghugas bagsak agad ako sa bed.Hehehe


I wanna told that me and Regine have a same schedule and also same school:)sayang nga si Mikmik eh kung parehas siya ng school na papasukan namin I Regine,Im sure na magkaklase din kame but hinde eh:(

I wanna thank my father and mother for supporting me eventhough sometimes Im not being a nice child to them.

I also thank to GOD JEHOVAH to helping me/us to overcome some obstacle that satan made.

Like I've said earlier...Someting unexpected happen....But its not sure yet im too nervous.

We went to a labaratory clinic today.I think the time we go their is 9 am.I have to take some labaratory test like CBC,URINALYSIS & XRAY.I have to take those examinations because that are the requirements to be enroll in a UNIVERSITY.Yes i am a college now.Freshmen.

After I finished the lab test.The doctor told us to come back 5 pm.

5 pm-unexpected happen begins.
My mother and I go to the lab clinic exactly 4:30 pm.We dont want to be late.We got my URINALYSIS & CBC. Were waiting my XRAY lab test so we wait until 6:00 pm and the XRAY Boy(i dont what do you called to the deliver of xrays.Hehehe.).
But it is not finish cause they need some tiping chenes in the xray.

7:00 am.We recieve my xray result and there is a problem in my xray.
The reader of the xray told us that he see a suspecious object in my xray.It is not sure.
The suspecious object-he tnink it is TB....
But my mother think its imposible cause of some reason:
1.Im so fat.
2.We dont see some symtoms.

For sure we do some another test cause another requirement is to have medical clearance but i did not get such clearance cauze of the xray result.So to have clearance I need again to have a xray test but in another angle.

You think that i might be a over acting person.Yes its true.Its in my personality.

BTW

That lab test for me can be a memorable  experienced cauze it is my first time to take all the labaratory test.

Prayer can help us to have a trust in ourselves and have faith to Jehovah God and to be positive all the time.

Always think that        "(Jehovah) He cares for you" -1 Peter 5:7
